What is a stroke?
A stroke is an interruption of the blood supply to the brain due to narrowed, blocked, or ruptured arteries. The cells in the affected part of the brain die because of a lack of needed oxygen. Its impacts are sudden and are characterized by limb paralysis, loss of sensation in one half of the body, blindness, and disorders of language and speech. Stroke can affect anyone regardless of age, sex, or socioeconomic status.
